Telegraph switch

DImensions: 7 x 30 x 15 cm Location: England Material: metal,bakelite,wood

Wooden plate sporting two line valves-switches. It was used as an accompanying/assisting instrument of the railway telegraph systems. Telegraph switches were used to facilitate communication between multiple telegraph stations. This model is equipped with two switches allowing the communication with two different telegraph stations. Since the beginnings of the 20th century, though, railway companies as much as military services used bigger versions of this model, i.e. wooden boxes equipped with more phone line switches for communication between multiple different telegraph stations.
