1940 Olympics

DImensions: 15,5 x 20,5 cm Location: Φινλανδία, Ελσίνκι, Cable and Wireless Limited Material: telegraphic paper

Telegram by Olympia (evidently an abbreviation for the Finnish Olympic Commission) sent from Helsinki to Athens to V. Vekiarellis, the director of the Athens News Agency. In the telegram, the Fins ask to be informed on whether Greece is going to participate in the Helsinki Olympic Games in 1940. The Greek side replied in the negative, as it seems from the handwritten note that reads "impossible to commit to the 1940 Olympic Games", since the outbreak of WWII was expected.
