Duchess Maria Pavlova

Telegram through which the Dutchess Maria Pavlovna informs her daughter, Princess Eleni Romanov, wife of Prince of Greece, Nicolas, for her safe arrival in London. Marie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1854-1920) or Maria Pavlovna of Russia was married in 1874 to the Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich of Russia (1847-1909) and became a prominent aristocratic personality of St. Petersburg. The fourth child was Helen (1881-1957), the later wife of Prince Nicholas of Greece. Originally become engaged to Prince Max of Baden, but canceled the engagement. And while there was a rumor that Helen had trouble finding a spouse, the Dutchess fell in love with the prince Nicholas against the will of the mother. They married in 1902 and had three daughters. After the conflict of Venizelos with King Constantine in 1917, the princely pair left Greece following the royal family in exile. In Switzerland Helen met the mother of Maria Pavlovna who had taken refuge there after the Russian revolution of 1917.
