It is the most common type of payphone that was installed in UK telephone booths from the 1930s until the 1970s. At the top, there are coin collection slots and on the front, a coin return slot. Moreover, the activation key and the safety lock are also visible. The device was accompanied and connected to a separate telephone set. The particularity of this exhibit lies on the fact that the coin collecting slot bears the inscription “50 mils 5 mils”, namely, it refers to a subdivision of the Cyprus pound which was used as currency during the period 1955-7938.
