GPO telephone desk set
Beige automatic plastic desk phone with a metal base , fitted with four beige brown buttons catering for its operations. It features a plastic rotary dial with a beige brown number dial back. The beige brown handset is fitted with a braided beige brown cord connecting it to the device and a round beige brown connection cord. This is a different version of the G.P.O 700-type provided with four extra buttons on the base plate which allotted the outside line call to any of four stations. The use of G.P.O 700-series for domestic telephony was iconic of the UK. From 1959, when the mass production of type 706 began, until the mid-1980s, the devices were constantly evolving featuring many - design or mechanical- variations while many hybrid models circulated on the market.
