Black automatic Bakelite wall phone fitted with a metal (steel) base plate and a handset connected to the device with an ochre woven cord. It has a metal rotary dial with a white inner ring sporting the letters A-K in Greek, testifying to the use of the device in Greece. This specific model formed part of a bigger Siemens telephone series in collaboration with the British Post Office (B.P.O) which carried the responsibility for providing telecommunication services across the country. Although the device was a commercial success, the 311 model was never officially adopted by B.P.O. Siemens named the series "Neophone" and, according to Siemens’ advertisements at the time, this was "the world’s most efficient telephone" which was "not only exceptionally handsome in appearance and convenient to use but definitely superior to any other telephone as regards speech transmission efficiency and articulation"
