Business telegram

DImensions: 26 x 20 cm Location: Greece, Zante Material: telegraphic paper

Business telegram sent from Zante to Athens, sporting the stamp of the International Financial Control. After the bankruptcy of the Greek state on December 1, 1893 and its defeat in the Greco-Turkish War in 1897, Greece was forced to accept the imposition of International Financial Control (IOC), namely the creation of an international committee of Great Powers representatives in Athens, which supervised the compensation of Turkey and the collections of revenues servicing the country's external debt. In 1898, the International Control Commission was established which assumed responsibility for the management of domestic revenues (taxes, monopolies, stamp duties, customs revenues). This policy for controlling the Greek economy contributed to its partial improvement.
