Passage of National Road
Personal telegram mailed at a cost of 20 cents from the Post Office of Athens to Volissos in Chios. The sender Polemidis (most probably member of the Freethinkers' Party) informs the sender in Volissos in Chios that he succeeded in crossing the National Road from the villages of Parparia, Trypes etc. up to the cove of Melaniou and he asks him to let the residents of Volissos know about it. As regards the sender, he is probably Andreas Polemidis, member of the Freethinker's party who was elected in the first elections after the Pangalos dictatorship, held on 11.07.1926. This telegram belongs to a special category of telegrams which are called "personal". The individual could rent a telegraph line serving two direct stations for a period which would not exceed one hour. The end of every quarter of an hour amounted to 100 drachmas.
