Telephone converter

DImensions: 40,5 x 28,5 x 20 cm Location: Poland Material: metal,bakelite,wood

Polish-made convertor manufactured in 1961. Wooden frame and metal facade, with 7 sockets, 5 phone line sockets, two function switches and a rotary dial. On the left is a metal hook whereon is resting a black Bakelite handset. Desk converters were used at telephone exchanges. This particular convertor was probably used for intercommunication purposes at a telephone exchange. It is a Polish-made converter catering for five phone lines, and it is possible that it was used by urban/rural telephone network management crews. The option of using this model was probably based on the fact that it is a simple design made of resistant materials and with a rather low production-purchase cost, making it a reliable instrument of communication.
